Pooper troopers!

Is that a scornful smirk I see on the gull perched atop the supposedly bird free lamp post! It's all about position and here it's clearly not working. I can see the thinking, point the spikes out to sea and they won't fly into or onto them, but them there gulls are smarter than they look and come around to land from behind. Eeeew! They really are sh.tty messy critters.. to demonstrate it's disdain it turned and.. well need I say more :)  How does the council in your city keep the bird mess under control? Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe....

  1. Grace, we have a "No Fly" zone over D.C. :-)

  3. Oh, what a hoot, Grace!! We have a whole gaggle of birds of all kinds and they daily leave us a message that they've been here to say good morning, good afternoon -- good whatever! Fortunately for me, I have a bird feeder in the middle of a large flower bed, so their "calling cards" just mix with the soil and help the hydrangeas to grow!! It works pretty well, all I have to worry about is tripping over the squirrels eating peanuts on my doorstep!!

  4. Yes you can't forbid them, they have no boss to control them, so they can do it everywhere, if we like it or not. Shit happens.

  5. You will notice they had more sharp sticks on the light but the brutes have broken them off!
The British seaside towns have 'Do not feed the Seagull' signs but stupid people still do.
The birds harass folks eating chips or anything else and run off with things.

  6. It did...it...while you were taking the photos? That gull has no class!

  7. That is most definitely a scornful smirk on his face! We use the same spikey things to keep the pigeons at bay but, like the ones in your photo, they don't always work. I have two trees that hang over my driveway so I have a similar problem with my car.

  8. That's definitely a waddayagonnadoaboutit look! Can't not love a gull though - poopers or not. I wonder if they're the most photographed bird in the world. Great shots Grace!

  9. They try the pegs like that and the railway pass where I showed the pigeon mural has actually had metal mesh installed under the whole structure to keep the birds from getting up in there and dropping deposits on walkers and cars!

  10. Well, you gotta admit they're on the ball.

  11. They are a worse problem in England and they are bigger there too. Europe has a lot of buildings netted against seagulls and pigeons.

  12. He has a 'king of the hill' bearing on him, doesn't he?!
We have a whole line of smaller spikes to deter them.

  13. I love your post but they are such monsters aren't they! Watch your head Grace, they have no respect whatsoever! xoJoy

  14. Do you walk through the area holding an umbrella?

  15. Such a funny post, Grace! I'm not sure that there is anything that can be done about gulls. In some ways, Canada Geese are even worse, though they don't fly as much, so most of their damage is on the ground (a hazard to those who don't watch their step).

  16. Haha!!! I've never seen a pic of a bird doing his business!!! We don't have street lamps in Mammoth...so who cares???!!!!
(as for the south land house...I've never noticed!!!)

  17. The bird's laughing at those measures meant to prevent his presence.

  22. I think people the world over have a collective hatred of pigeons. Funny shots and commentary. :)

  23. Ewww, yes, poop everywhere!
Ah, Grace, no idea if to say yay or bu-huu, but we have no seagulls here (hence, no sea).
But flying rats aka pigeons are a (minor) problem here. Stupid people feed them and there is nothing to do against them (none of 'em).
I´ve learned in former East-Germany they were allowed, even encouraged, to shoot pigeons, but these days they are a pest...
And - in contrast to seagulls - nor beautiful, nor full of the romantic imagination of the sea...

  24. That is funny Grace! They are very messy, that is for sure. I think you were getting the old stink eye in the first photo.
